Ruth Dean Volleyball Queen!

Ruth Dean 12Sn has been selected for the New Zealand Volleyball Junior Women’s Development Team.

Ruth who plays for the OHS premier girls volleyball team was spotted by scouts while playing at the Secondary Schools Volleyball Nationals in Palmerston North earlier in the year. She was asked to attend a 5 day training camp in Wellington over the holidays, where young women selected from all over the country trained under the watchful eyes of the selectors.

“We learnt lots of new skills especially from a visiting American coach, who was really good,“ explained Ruth. A very excited Ruth found out last week that she had been selected for the New Zealand development team. This team will play in a competition in August but as they are from all parts of New Zealand will not train together until they meet again in Wellington in July. Ruth has made many new friends and learnt new skills and techniques which she is passing on to her school coach Mr Bryce Griffiths and her school teammates.

This very talented and humble young women is no stranger to success, she has in fact been chosen for a New Zealand Taekwondo team in the past and managed to achieve Level 1 NCEA endorsed with merit last year.

Congratulations Ruth we could not be more proud of you!
