Year 13 Business Students Motivated For Success

OHS Level 3 Business students are once again this year, taking part in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES).

This programme is designed to give students the experience of running their own start up companies. After deciding on a product and personnel, each ‘company’ develops their product or service and works to bring it to market. Students from schools throughout New Zealand compete to be the most successful entrepreneurs in various categories. New Zealand has a number of successful entrepreneurs and companies that started their journeys as part of the YES programme.

Our students were lucky enough to attend the Kickstart Day at the AUT Southern Campus on Thursday. Students were given an overview of the YES programme and the challenges each company needs to complete. In their groups, students explored how you might decide on a product or service to start their companies with. With over $20,000 on offer in the National prize pool, this is an exciting opportunity for real world learning. The profits that companies make are theirs to keep!

In addition, individual students can apply to take part in ‘Extreme Experiences”, weekend or week- long challenges designed to enhance their learning around entrepreneurship and business.

We look forward to following the fortunes of the companies as they progress during the year.
