Year 11 Awards Ceremony 2023

The Awards Ceremony for Year 11 students was held in the gymnasium on Friday.

The achievements of  students were celebrated in three categories: Academic Excellence, Outstanding Progress and Service to the school.

Thank you to Auro Hira-Bourne, for leading the opening Karakia, Kara Belk for the Mihimihi and the OHS Kapa Haka group for their moving Waiata, Tautoko, Nei Rā Te Kaupapa.

Principal Shameen Hayat welcomed students, teachers, whānau and guests to the school and thanked families for their crucial support of our students on their educational journey. Ms Hayat thanked the teachers and Year 11 Kaitiaki  for their tireless commitment to ‘nurturing the minds of our students’. Ms Hayat congratulated all the prize winners for their hard work and dedication.

Entertainment was provided by Abby Pangan, Lynn Vaa, Abbie Thomson, Jess Freeman, Megan Webb, Bethany Morgan and Addison Tuala, who performed a beautiful dance piece titled ‘Jerico’ and by Aria’s Circus whose members, Aria van Dolleweerd, Cameron Ross, Oliver Meade, Peter Muller, Elliot Wyness and Jarvis Skilling, who performed ‘Come and Get Your Love’.

The ceremony ended with an address from Year 11 Dean Mr Jeff McKay, who encouraged students to stay committed to their journey, by giving their all for their school, their friends and their family. He reminded students that successful people don’t let their feelings stop them from doing what they need to, or should do.
