It has been wonderful to welcome our Year 9, Class of 2025 to OHS.
After a Powhiri lead by our Kaumātua, Tutu Haru and a very moving waiata performed by students from Te Papapa school bilingual unit, our Principal Ms Deidre Shea, extended her welcome to all students, whanau and staff as we begin a new and exciting year at OHS.
Ms Shea thanked all those parents, family members and friends who came to support their tamariki. We truly value our relationship with students and families, which is so key to success.
Year 9 students will spend the week in their Kaitiaki class getting to know each other, the school and what it means to be in the OHS whanau. They will learn the school song, karakia, waiata and haka. Students will visit Te Haerenga the school marae and learn about its whakairo and kowhaiwhai. On Thursday students will visit both our maunga, Maungakiekie and Mangere Mountain where they will participate in team building activities. An interclass sports competition on Friday afternoon will be followed by a BBQ for all Year 9 students and their families.
As a bonus this year, students do not need to bring their lunch to school. It is provided for free to every student everyday!
We warmly welcome each of you to OHS and trust that you enjoy the programme provided for you. Next week we will go on to a normal timetable. Many sports practices will begin. For information on these and other school notices, you should be checking out the Year 9 Classroom page every day. Make sure devices are charged each evening and be ready to begin. Make the most of every opportunity that you are given, get involved in the life of the school and remember that your Dean Ms Moore and all of the staff are here to help you.
