Week 1 2022

Despite some adjustments required by the Red Covid setting it has been a wonderful week at OHS.

Year 9 students were welcomed with a Powhiri led by Kaumātua, Tutu Haru on Tuesday and have spent the rest of the week getting to know their kaitiaki, meeting new friends, peer support leaders and teachers. They have been to Mangere mountain to participate in team building exercises, have enjoyed sports with their class and have started to learn what it means to be a member of the OHS whanau. They are at the very beginning of their journey at OHS and will learn how important our values are to all of us. As they go forward they will continue to develop the Loyalty and Courage that make OHS students successful as they strive to achieve their goals.

Year 10-13 students have spent time reflecting on the year that has been and have made some commitments for the year ahead. A new year is a fresh start, a chance to begin again, allowing us to build on the things that we are proud of and to learn the lessons from our disappointments.

It is fantastic to see the new gym in use. Sports teachers and students have waited a long time and the wait was worth it! A truly magnificent building that will surely inspire great achievements.

JETS trials for Basketball, Netball and Volleyball were held in the gym this week, with further trials next week.

We welcome all students and teachers to the new school year. Please be assured that if you need support, it is here for you.

A huge thank you to all the staff that contributed to making the first week such a positive one and to our students for their enthusiastic participation in our O Week programme.

Kia kaha, kia māia, Kia manawanui
