Sports Department Fitness Challenges

We have been encouraged during the lock down to try new things, perhaps learn a language, or take up a new hobby, learn to cook or to increase our fitness. If the number of people cycling, walking and running around our streets and in our parks is any indication then most certainly many of us have chosen to keep active during this time.

Mr Coombes, our energetic Director of Sport is determined that we will all return from lock-down considerably fitter. He has been posting challenges for all students and staff on Classroom pages and on Facebook.

Last week was the Running Challenge. Students had to post a photo and their time in order to qualify for prizes. Juniors ran 3Kms and Seniors 5Kms. Congratulations to all of you who took up the challenge and to the following winners who will receive an OHS sports tee and backpack.

Junior Girls         Tasmin Walsh

Junior Boys         Luken Zulaika

Senior Girls         Olivia Bush

Senior Boys         Kemen Zulaika Nillesen

Staff                      Mr McFadyen

Overall winner with the fastest time and winner of the Swiss Peak Headphones:

Kemen Zulaika Nillesen

This week's challenge is for us to stay active by collectively attempting to walk, run or cycle the equivalent of the length of New Zealand from top to bottom, a distance of 1600Kms!

Participants send screenshots from their training app or Fit bit to Mr Coombes who will be updating progress daily. At present, despite the rain we have managed 125kms a very good effort. You can still join in, just email Mr Coombes at, sport@ohs.school.nz or go to Facebook.

Keep up the good work everyone, stay safe and remember you should all be following your normal timetable and completing the work set for you.
