It has been 10 years since OHS had a Senior Boys’ Softball team at the Auckland Secondary Schools FastPitch One Day Competition. This year OHS fielded a team of Year 11 and Year 12 students in the competition held in Papakura on Friday.
Two pools of 5 schools each competed to win the pool and proceed to the final. OHS playing in Pool B had to conquer Rosehill, Aorere, Howick and Long Bay colleges. Despite coming up against Auckland and New Zealand representative players, our students showed they had the courage, determination and impressive pitching, fielding, base running and batting skills to win the pool and proceed to the final.
In the final Onehunga came up against Alfriston College, a team made up almost entirely of Counties Manukau Reps. Despite their very best efforts OHS couldn’t quite get there and Alfriston deservedly took the game and the tournament. Winning the Silver medal was a fantastic achievement for this young team.
Special thanks to Mr Trafford and Mr Jacobsen, who are very proud of the whole team. They would particularly like to recognise the efforts of:
Zoram Tauili’ili Captain and catcher
Liam Morrow-O’Connor Pitcher
Luken Zulaika Centre fielder
Filipe Li Shortstop
Ehlym Tauili’ili First baseman
Yuto Suzuki Second baseman
Kaname Kishiwadaya Third baseman.
