School Sports Roundup

Winter sport at Onehunga High School has started strong and it's great to see so many of our students engaged in our co-curricular programme.

After many years of disruption, it’s fantastic to have all our codes up and running and getting the full use of all our new facilities.

 Winter results roundup:

 Code: Basketball

Great to have our basketball program enjoying our new gym with 4 teams this year competing in the Auckland Competition.

Our U17 Girls are off to a great start, sitting in 3rd spot in the league with a great group of girls working hard. Our Boys U17 are sitting top of the pool and looking in a very strong position to hopefully take out the competition.

2023 is the first time we have had a senior boys’ team which is great for our basketball pathway, especially with our U15 Boys unbeaten and sitting 1st equal in the pool.

 Code: Football

OHS Football is in a very strong position with both the boys and girls teams performing very well.

Our girls teams have started well this winter with our juniors developing and winning games with the benefit of our JETS program. The Girls 1st XI have just qualified for the NZ Nationals for the first time and are currently top of the league and pushing for promotion into the Premier league in 2024.

Our Boys’ teams are focused on development, with our 13th grade unbeaten in A2 and still in the cup playing some great football. Our 15th grade are a great bunch of students who are getting better each week and are our feeder to the 1st XI.

Our 1st XI have had a great start to the year after being promoted into A3 and now sit 2nd after the first 5 games.

 Code: Netball

Our netball program has had a massive kick start this year with our courts back open and 5 teams up and running for the winter season.

All our teams are playing a great brand of netball with our Premier girls setting the bar high with an unbeaten start to the season and have developed an awesome team culture. Our other teams have started well with some positive results and are developing some great talent for the future.

Code: Rugby

Rugby has started well with our 1st XV winning the first 2 of their 3 games of the season and having the experience of playing at Mt Smart Stadium as a curtain raiser for Moana Pacific in a great win over Mangere College. Our U15 boys have started well with a few wins and the team is really looking forward to getting back into sport this weekend.
