Alumna Rosie Hayden (class of 2017) has recently been awarded a scholarship to attend the United Nations Youth North American Leadership Tour.
Rosie is one of 14 students chosen from universities, to represent New Zealand. Rosie who is studying Law and Arts at Auckland University, is very excited and honoured to have been chosen for this wonderful opportunity. While the itinerary is still being finalised, she knows that as part of the month long tour they are visiting New York, then go to Harvard University where they will represent New Zealand at the World Model United Nations. The group will also visit top law firms in New York, visit embassies and attend UN meetings. They will then go to Washington DC, before going to Montreal, Canada and Mexico City.
Rosie is very grateful for the opportunity she was given while at OHS to attend MUNA in Years 11 to 13 which she believes contributed to her successful application. Her advice to students is to “take up every opportunity offered to you”. Rosie only applied for this scholarship at the last minute, believing that she would not be chosen. Had she not had the courage to put herself forward, she would have missed, what will assuredly be, a life changing opportunity.
