Restaurant Visit

Level 2 and 3 Catering students had the opportunity to visit two of Auckland's top restaurants, Ostro and Amano, this week.

Students got a first hand look at the many roles available in restaurants and were lucky enough  to have a restaurant experience, by being served pastries and hot chocolate!

Students were able to talk to people who had started as dishwashers and had made their way up into other positions. Whether you want to become a Sous Chef, Pastry Chef, Bartender, or work front of house as a Waiter or Waitress, there is a huge shortage of people to work in the Food and Hospitality sector and there are enormous opportunities for the right people.

There are multiple pathways to work in the industry. You can get a qualification, or you can apply to a restaurant directly. All you need is a genuine desire to work and a positive attitude. Take the initiative and contact the restaurant, outside of their busy service times (lunch and dinner) and have your CV ready.

Six OHS students have been offered work placements in the next two holiday breaks, by the Savor Group, who own the restaurants visited.

If you would like information about work in the Food and Hospitality sector, make an appointment to see Mrs Shaw in Careers.
