Polyfest Success 2021

The 2021 Polyfest event was held at the end of term 1.  After disruptions to the previous two events it was great to have seven OHS groups representing the school and performing with pride at the Manukau Sports Centre.  The following were the groups who performed:

 Māori                                      Samoan

Tongan                                    Niuean

Cook Island                             Chinese

Indian

All the groups were a credit to themselves and the staff and tutors who put in hours of work in preparation for the event.  On top of Polyfest itself, successful fiafia/fiefie evenings were held at Royal Oak Intermediate and Onehunga High School where large numbers of family members and fellow students attended in order to suppor thte groups.

Results from the different stages are listed below:

Tongan Stage:  OHS 1st place in Mako.  Sione Havili 2nd in Tongan Speech competition

Niuean stage:  OHS 1st in Takolo (war dance) and 3rd in entry.  Benji Sanisitou 3rd in male leader.

Cook Island: OHS 4th in the non-competitive section.

Samoan speech competition – Danica Kopelani 2nd place in Y9 competition.

All students would like to extend their gratitude for the support and commitment of the tutors and teacher-in-charge of the groups.
