Our Wonderful Lee Warn

Onehunga High School has always been proud of Lee Warn, one of our alumnus who has been both a source of inspiration and a benefactor of the school. Lee has for many years provided a scholarship to support a Year 11 student reach their potential.

In 1989 at the age of 16, Lee had an accident and broke his back. Becoming a paraplegic proved not to be the tragedy that it might have been. It took Lee a few years to fight back and find himself again, but two years after the accident he became involved in wheelchair racing and was soon pushing boundaries and breaking down barriers. He has since competed in many, many events including marathons and ultra marathons!  Wheelchair racing is not the only sport Lee excels at, he also has many Target Shooting awards.

This weekend for the 15th year in a row, Lee will line up in the Auckland Round the Bays. You can’t miss him, he will be the squirrel in the wheelchair!  He takes the opportunity to have some fun by dressing up, putting a smile on the face of those around him. He would like to encourage others, particularly those with disabilities to ‘give it a go’, get involved and simply have some fun!

Lee is of course using the event to help others, by raising money for the Leukemia and Blood Cancer charity.

You are an inspiration to us all Lee.
