In 2022 OHS was the pilot school for the Blues Leadership program, a venture run by the Blues Charitable Trust. The concept of the Blues Charitable Trust is “to build something that makes a positive difference to future generations and cultivate a genuine connection with our community while growing and developing our people” (https://www.blues.rugby/blues-charitable-trust). The success of this program has led to a further 8 schools in addition to OHS being part of this opportunity in 2023.

 Our Kapa Haka was invited to open the launch of the Auckland Blues rugby season and the Charitable Trust for 2023 at the Cloud on Thursday 16th February. They performed their bracket magnificently, impressing the guests and Blues team. Two of the students from last year’s leadership program (Tulivae and Soteria) also took part in the event, supporting with fundraising and interacting with the guests throughout the luncheon.

 We were particularly proud to be part of this event, as we also celebrated two ex OHS students being named in the Blues women’s squad for 2023: Joanna Fanene Lol and Chryss Viliko. We look forward to celebrating their successes this rugby season.
