In a heart stopping final that ended in a 12-12 draw the OHS Girls’ 1st XV share the Auckland Championship title with Southern Cross Campus! However in even better news, because our girls’ ended the competition at the top of the table they will represent Auckland and be named as the Blues in the National Finals to be held in Palmerston North this weekend.
This was a truly exciting game, where every team member showed great skill, true grit and courage to hang on, even when Cathy Mosaati 13Sn was injured and had to be subbed. The try scorers were Salote Maile 11Ai and Sophia Ioane 13Ll, converted by Meleane Hala12Ed.
OHS has a proud tradition in women's rugby, with a number of our former students now playing for top Auckland teams. Former students Joanne Fanene and Vianga Moimoi are playing for the Storm, the premier Auckland women's rugby team, while Chrissy Vilika and Ahea Langi are playing for the Auckland Falcons, the next team down. Perhaps it won’t be long before we have a former student playing for the Black Ferns.
The success of our players is testimony to the dedication and skill of our coaches, Sione Hala, Sam Crichton and Seniola Ulakai and to the wonderful Sue Maney who has been the team manager for the past 9 years! Thank you to this team for giving up their time to support our players.
A huge congratulations to every team member, you have made the school and your families very proud.
