Everybody Eats

Everybody Eats was a concept launched in 2017 by Nick Loosley. The idea was to take rescued food from supermarkets and growers that would otherwise be wasted and turn it into restaurant quality, nutritious food which the whole community, including people suffering food poverty and social isolation could access.

Everybody Eats has a pay- as-you -feel, community restaurant in Onehunga. Diners on a Monday night pay whatever they like for the kai, even if it is nothing. A $5.00 donation can pay for one three course meal for a vulnerable person in the community. People who can pay sit alongside those who are much less fortunate, enjoying the same delicious meals  while encouraging interaction and understanding.

OHS L3 Catering and Food and Hospitality students, working in teams supported by Mr Ryan Thom and Ms Karen Coleman have been working preparing meals, plating and working front of house at the restaurant on a Monday night. They have been learning invaluable skills working with a team of volunteers to support the project. In one evening session, they managed 112 covers between 5-8.30 pm! They have not only helped to provide some fabulous meals but have made connections in the community and have gained an appreciation for the role food can play in making a positive impact on the lives of others.

If you would like to support our students and the community head to the restaurant at 360 Onehunga Mall on a Monday night.
