Dance and Drama Thrive at OHS

Onehunga High School is fortunate to have a great relationship with the National Youth Theatre Company (NYTC), which runs New Zealands premier musical training programme for young people aged 7-21.

Every year a number of OHS students are offered scholarship places in the company which allows them to perform in two productions without incurring costs. This is a wonderful opportunity for our most talented Dance and Drama students.

In 2022 NYTC scholarship places went to: Peter Muller, Nathan Tan, Stan Foster-Atkins, Avinish Singh, Liam Ashby, Magdalene Iremia- Apelu, Natalie Sifheone, Hēvani Purcell, Jasmin Swords and Sia Greentree. These students performed in the musical ‘Wendy’ at the Aotea Centre and have been offered a place in ‘High School Musical’ at the end of the year.

Jasmine, Magdalene, Avi and Peter will be performing in the musical ‘Cats’, later in the year. A further 5 scholarships will be offered to students in 2023.

OHS Dance and Drama students have the opportunity to go and see the shows and be inspired, at no cost to the school, thanks to the generosity of the NYTC.
