There were more than 300 jobs on offer at the Auckland Airport Jobs Expo held last week.
The Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Auckland Business Chamber and Auckland Airport Jobs and Skills Hub (ARA), joined forces to host a one day Jobs Expo, the afternoon session, set aside exclusively for school students. There were 30 businesses on hand actively recruiting. This was an opportunity to connect job seekers with employers. There are opportunities available in hospitality, retail, administration, construction, logistics and travel and tourism.
Twenty-nine OHS students attended the event, many of whom registered with potential employers or training organisations, some looking for holiday work, others for permanent work. Arguably one of the most important things anyone can do to better their chances of finding work is to have their driving licence and many people registered for free driving licence training, paid for by MSD on the day.
With an estimated 27,000 jobs coming on stream in the next 30 years, connecting people with jobs is crucial. ARA is there to help the people of South Auckland in particular, to find the right opportunities and connect them to employers or training. This is a free service. All you need for many of these jobs is the right attitude. Employers repeatedly said, “all we want are people who want to work, who can work hard, are reliable, who turn up for work everyday”. If any of you or your whanau or friends, want to find work or need advice about training opportunities, get in touch with the lovely ARA team. You can:
