Twenty well prepared OHS students attended the ARA School Jobs Expo.
The ARA Educational Trust teamed up with the Auckland Business Chamber, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education and Auckland Airport to create the event, designed to provide those students who need it with solid employment options when they finish school.
OHS careers advisor Mrs Kristin Shaw ensured that each of our students went with five copies of their CV, had their Learners Licence and proof of any qualifications including Site Safe and ForkLIft licences that they may have, with them. This ensured that our students had every opportunity to impress. With 34 potential employers from a large variety of industries present and hundreds of job opportunities available, students took the opportunity to interview with at least three potential employers each. There were educational and training providers also on site that students could meet with. Many took the opportunity to register for some free driver training.
Mariam Nai 13Wh was interviewed by a number of media organisations including Radio NZ and Tagata Pasifika. She was an absolute star. You can see her interview on the link below.
ARA is there to help the people of South Auckland in particular, to find the right opportunities and connect them to employers or training. This is a free service. All you need for many of these jobs is the right attitude. Employers repeatedly said, “all we want are people who want to work, who can work hard, are reliable, who turn up for work everyday”. If any of you or your whanau or friends, want to find work or need advice about training opportunities, get in touch with the lovely ARA team.
