It may have been a difficult year with the stress and interruptions caused by Covid, but Junior students had a very positive and enjoyable end to the 2020 school year.
Year 10 had a fabulous Active Lifestyles week. The camp at Mangawhai provided so many opportunities for students to try new things and forge new friendships. The early morning swims, kayaking (even with stingrays), surf life saving lessons, Burma trail and cooking on campfires were just some of the activities students enjoyed. The occasional wind and rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our intrepid adventurers.
While Year 10’s were at camp or getting fitter at North Head or climbing Rngitoto, the Year 9’s were busy with Inquiry week, researching the causes of a real world problem and the impact it has on themselves, their community and the wider world.
The Year 9 Cultural Arts Day was a highlight for many. Students enjoyed learning the songs, games and dances of each other's cultures. For some the Sports Days, even swimming in the less than tepid waters of the Jellicoe pools, was their highlight.
The large variety of activities provided for students required an enormous amount of organisation. Special thanks must go to all of those involved with particular thanks to Mr Leadbeater.
The final event for the year was the Junior Awards Ceremony, to celebrate the admirable achievements of so many of our students. Congratulations to all students who were recognised for their efforts on the day. In particular we congratulate the following students:
Stan Foster- Atkins, Junior Drama Trophy
Abigail Haitoua, Junior Musician of the Year
