The “Chinese Bridge” Speech Competition is the most famous international Chinese language competition for non-native speakers in the world. It is organised worldwide by the Hanban/ Confucius Institute.
Just participating in this competition takes courage; it is challenging but rewarding. Students not only have to give a speech in Chinese but then have to entertain judges in the talent competition!
Two OHS students competed in the Auckland preliminary round, Victoria Talalelei Amani 12Wo and Olano Khadija 11Ai, both won Special Prizes! Victoria was awarded second place and Olano third place. Olano and Victoria will be joined by 4 other Special Award winners to represent the Auckland Region in the competition for the national title on 4th of August in Christchurch. The winners of the national final will represent New Zealand in the glamorous, televised world final in China.
Both Olano and Victoria sang in Chinese for the talent show performance. They were accompanied by Lee Wong 12Ed on keyboard and Vanessa Ly 11Pk backing vocals, who did a fabulous job supporting Victoria and Olano.
We are delighted for these students who took up a challenge, worked hard, persevered and were rewarded with these prizes. Congratulations ladies and good luck!
