Last week on Thursday evening we formally launched the 1st XV boys rugby season with a family fono.
It was a great opportunity for coaching and management staff, players and families to come together ahead of the 2022 season. New players were presented with rugby ties and returning senior players were presented with training tops.
There were a range of addresses from Deputy Principal Mrurray Saunders, coaches Taulia Tafiti and Moni Fenunuti, our major sponsor Reece Glozier (Ray White Royal Oak), Steve Frear and Sofia Kaur before a surprise guest speaker, David Tua (Faumuina To’aletai Mafaufau David Tua).
The ‘Tuamanator’ David Tua, a former professional Samaoan born, New Zealand boxer, competed on the world stage as a heavyweight from 1992-2013. Tua, who was known for his formidable punching power and his devastating left hook, has an impressive record of 59 fights, 52 wins and 43 knockouts ! He was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame this year. David Tua inspired our players with his wisdom and motivational messages about the importance of training hard, having conviction and displaying self-control and discipline. We would like to express our sincere thanks to him for taking the time to speak at the fono and to wish our team goodluck for the season.
