Head of Code: Mr Steve Frear

Rugby Union has had a rich history at Onehunga High School.  The school's 1st XV boys and girls teams have competed in the 1A competitions over a number of years.  In 2012, the boy's 1st XV team won the New Zealand co-education schools championship.  The 1st XV girl's team have consistently finished in the top two of the Premier Girl's fifteens competition, and in 2019 were crowned as the Northern Region Champions, progressing to be semi finalists at Nationals.  In addition to the success of teams over the past decades a number of players have gone on to gain representative honours both regionally and nationally.  Ex-Onehunga High School players have played for Super Rugby franchises and former students have represented their nations across the Pacific.
