Health Science Academy Success

Congratulations, to Health Science Academy students, Anam Aiyub 13Cw, Elizabeth Kaliatama 13Ne, Gabrielle Leala 13Ab and Zunaira Mahmood 13Ab for being selected as part of the Rangatahi programme to work in paid employment with the Auckland DHB over the holidays.

Academy students had earlier in the year been given an introduction to the many career options that there are in the Health sector, by health professionals currently working in the hospital. They attended a 7 hour Introduction Day, and many were fortunate enough to be placed in a week long work experience programme where they were able to follow a health professional in an area that interested them. These experiences enabled students to understand the link between what they were studying and the careers they were interested in pursuing and to truly understand what these jobs actually were like on a day to day basis.

Perhaps just as important is the mentoring available to students both while they attend school and while they transition to University and beyond. Furthermore, students make contacts and build networks among health professionals and the universities.

We wish Anam, Elizabeth, Gabrielle and Zunaira every success as they begin a new and exciting chapter in their lives.
